Amarone Edinburgh
Amarone Edinburgh occupies one of the city’s most impressive dining settings within the historic Capital Building on St Andrew Square. Combining grand early twentieth-century architecture with contemporary Italian hospitality, the restaurant has become a popular destination for everything from business lunches and pre-theatre dinners to family celebrations and special occasions.
Operated by the Scottish restaurant group DRG (Di Maggio’s Restaurant Group), the restaurant takes its name from the celebrated full-bodied red wine of Italy’s Veneto region. The restaurant specialises in modern Italian cuisine, offering a menu inspired by traditional regional recipes while using fresh Scottish produce wherever possible. Handmade pasta, wood-fired pizzas, premium steaks, fresh seafood and classic Italian desserts all feature prominently, alongside an extensive wine list showcasing both Italian and international vintages.
The dining room is one of Amarone’s defining features. Housed beneath soaring ceilings with elegant stone columns and large windows overlooking St Andrew Square, it retains much of the grandeur of the former banking hall that once occupied the building. The result is a space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming, making it equally suited to a relaxed lunch, an evening meal or a celebratory gathering.
Its location places Amarone at the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, just a short walk from Waverley Station, Princes Street, George Street and the St James Quarter. Visitors exploring the city centre often choose Amarone as a convenient stop after shopping, sightseeing or attending performances at nearby theatres and concert venues.
Over the years, the restaurant has established a reputation for dependable service, generous portions and consistently well-executed Italian classics. Whether you’re looking for a traditional bowl of pasta, a perfectly cooked steak, authentic Neapolitan-style pizza or simply a glass of Amarone wine in elegant surroundings, it remains one of Edinburgh city centre’s most recognisable Italian restaurants.
