Tills Bookshop

Founded by Rick and Ann Till in 1985, Tills Bookshop has long been one of Edinburgh’s best-loved second-hand bookshops. Looking out across the Meadows, the small Southside shop has earned a loyal following among readers, collectors, students, and wandering book lovers alike.

In 2019, ownership passed to Kate and Joshua McNamara, who carefully renovated the shop while preserving its hospitable literary character.

Though compact, the shelves are densely packed with an eclectic, thoughtfully chosen range of books. Visitors will find everything from contemporary and classic literary fiction to science fiction, history, biography, philosophy, sociology, and the occasional rare or antiquarian treasure hidden among the stacks.

Open seven days a week, Tills Bookshop is as much a place for conversation as it is for browsing. A few well-placed seats encourage visitors to linger, while the knowledgeable staff are always happy to chat about books, authors, and recommendations.

Alongside buying and selling second-hand books, the shop also deals in rare and antiquarian titles and offers book valuations and estate visits for larger collections.
