Edinburgh Haymarket Station

Edinburgh Haymarket Station is a major transport hub and the city’s second mainline railway station, along with Edinburgh Waverley. It sits on the west side of the city centre and serves commuters, business travellers, and visitors going to central Edinburgh or other parts of Scotland.

The station opened in the mid-1800s and has been an important part of Scotland’s rail network for many years. Although it is smaller than Waverley, many people find it quicker and easier to use, especially if they are coming from the west or switching trains.

Haymarket is on the main rail line that connects Edinburgh with Glasgow, Stirling, Perth, and the Highlands. Long-distance trains to and from England also stop here. The station is compact, with clear signs and step-free access, so changing trains is usually easy.

Many commuters prefer Haymarket when travelling to Edinburgh’s West End, the financial district, or nearby areas like Dalry and Gorgie. Its location is also helpful for visitors staying outside the Old Town and New Town.

Right next to the station is Haymarket Tram Stop, which is part of the Edinburgh Trams network. Trams run frequently and offer step-free access between the city centre and Edinburgh Airport, stopping at places such as Princes Street, the West End, and Leith.

Because rail and tram services are well connected, Haymarket is one of the easiest places in the city to change between different types of transport. Buses, taxis, and cycle routes are also right outside, making it a true transport hub.
